MoonChat Privacy Policy
At MoonChat, your privacy isn’t a feature — it’s the foundation of everything we do. We don’t collect your personal details, we don’t track your behavior, and we don’t share your information.
What MoonChat Does Not Collect
No phone number, no email, no identity required — a random username is generated for you at sign-up.
No IP address logging or device fingerprinting.
No profiling, analytics, or advertising trackers.
We simply don’t want your data, so we designed MoonChat so that we never have it in the first place.
Secure by Default
Every message, file, image, or voice note is encrypted end-to-end using PGP encryption. Neither public nor private servers can read your conversations. Only you and the people you chat with hold the keys.
You decide where your conversations live:
Join the public server to start instantly.
Run your own server if you want complete control over your data.
Mobile Apps and App Stores
When using MoonChat on iOS or Android, Apple and Google may collect system-level telemetry about your device usage (such as crash logs, app open/close events, device model). This data is linked to your Apple or Google account, not to MoonChat.
To avoid the App Store or Play Store, you can install MoonChat via our F-Droid repository or from GitHub.
Website
Our website is designed with the same principle as the app: minimal data, maximum privacy.
We do not track visitors or build user profiles.
Any technical logs are deleted within a short period (no longer than 6 months).
We use Cloudflare to deliver our website securely and quickly. Cloudflare may retain basic request logs for up to 7 days.
